Three people have died after a mass shooting in a shopping centre in Copenhagen with an additional three people in critical condition. Danish police also said 20 people suffered minor injuries.

Two 17 year-old Danish citizens and a 47 year-old Russian citizen have been confirmed dead by police.

Police arrested a 22-year-old suspect shortly after the shooting, with the police stating they are not treating this as a terrorist attack.

Danish authorities have opened a crisis help centre for those present during the shooting to receive help.

Governments across the world have sent their sympathies to Denmark with Foreign Secretary Liz Truss tweeting her condolences.

Events cancelled

Denmark’s Chief of Police Inspector Søren Thomassen, said: "Our preliminary investigation continues to indicate that the perpetrator acted on his own. We are in the process of a massive and very extensive investigation, which will continue throughout the night and in the coming days”.

The mass shooting led to increased security in Copenhagen with some events being cancelled.

Harry Styles, the former One Direction singer, was due to perform at the nearby Royal Arena venue as part of his Love On Tour show.

In a tweet, Styles said he was “heartbroken” and “devastated for the victims”.

A statement from concert promoter Live Nation said: “Tonight’s concert with Harry Styles has been cancelled by the direction of the Danish Police.

“We are all truly devastated by the events of today and our thoughts are with the victims and their families. We are looking into future possibilities for the show, and hope to be able to give ticket buyers direct information as soon as possible.”

Large crowds had already gathered inside the arena when the show’s cancellation was announced and they were asked to leave.

Acts such as Pearl Jam and Queen + Adam Lambert are also due to perform at the venue in the coming weeks.
