Tour of Britain comes to the Tees Valley
The cycling race starts in Darlington and finishes in Redcar today
Today will see thousands of people lining the streets of the Tees Valley as the region plays host to the Tour of Britain.
The cycling race starts in Darlington, where riders will then head to Stockton, through the North York Moors, before finishing at Redcar seafront.
One of the biggest names in this year's event is Olympic gold medallist Tom Pidcock.
Cllr Carrie Richardson, Cabinet Member for Climate and Culture and Deputy Leader of the Council said: "This is a huge sporting event with an international profile and it’s a wonderful opportunity to show off our incredibly beautiful countryside, coast and towns to an audience of millions.
"We can’t wait to welcome not only these elite athletes but cycling enthusiasts - and those who just want to soak up the atmosphere - from across the country. It’s exciting that we have the chance to show off our beautiful borough on the national, and international stage for this iconic sporting event.
"We are building a reputation as a key cycling venue across the country after a number of prestigious races held here and it’s easy to see why with our amazing scenery including Saltburn Bank and the coast. We’re looking forward to welcoming cycling enthusiasts - and people simply looking to soak up the incredible atmosphere - on the big day.”
