Police are appealing for witnesses and CCTV footage after a man and a woman were stabbed in Hartlepool.

Paramedics contacted police at around 9:20pm last night (4th September) when a 30-year-old man suffered a stab wound to his abdomen on Stephen Street and was taken to James Cook University Hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A short time later, at around 9:40pm, officers attended a report that a 36-year-old woman had also suffered a minor stabbing injury to her leg at a property on Sheriff Street. She was not taken to hospital.

Officers say the incidents are being linked and the victims are believed to have known the suspect.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with both incidents and he currently remains in police custody.

Detectives would appeal for any witnesses to these incidents or anyone with CCTV footage to contact Hartlepool CID on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number SE24171029.
