Cleveland Police have praised a victim for their bravery and courage after a rapist was sentenced to eight years at Teeside Crown Court.

After a trial, Simon Nash, 31, was sentenced on Friday 17 May after attacking the victim as she slept.

As well as the prison term, a judge also handed him a life-time restraining order. He will also be on the sex offenders’ register for life.

Detective Constable Joanne Shepherd said: “The victim has shown amazing strength and courage to report what had happened to her and I’d like to thank her for her bravery and unwavering support throughout the process.

“I’m pleased justice was served today and I hope the victim can find some comfort in knowing Nash is unable to harm anyone else.

“If anyone would like to report an incident, whether for themselves or on behalf of another person, I would urge them to Cleveland Police on 101.”
