A charity in Teesside say they've been helping children over the summer by getting them ready to head back to the classrooms next week.

Middlesbrough-based The Junction has been handing 'back to school' essentials to families and kids in poverty across the Tees Valley.

Chief executive Beth Major said: "Children and young people who are impacted more by poverty quite often return to school not on the same terms as any other child or young person; getting our new backpack, our brand new shoes, our new coat that's slightly too big for us and that's kind of a right of passage.

"The campaign is about giving families who might be struggling more in the Tees Valley the opportunity to support their child on the same terms as every other child returning back to school, whether that's backpacks, pencil cases, or other goods that young people need.

"We're joining forces with our local holiday activities and food programmes and we're working with other local charities to make sure that those goods get to children and young people in time for September and have that positive start back into education."
