The Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland joined hundreds of others to take part in Redcar’s Boxing Day Dip today.

Mayor, Cllr Neil Bendelow, sounded the start of the charge into the sea by hundreds of hardy souls – and then went in right after them.

Like many others, the Mayor, who dressed in a penguin outfit for the dip, is raising money for charity – both Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice based in Normanby and St John’s Church in South Bank which supports people right across the community.

Cllr Bendelow said: “I feel like it might take me a year to warm up! It was a wonderful atmosphere with all these people doing their bit for charity too. A lot of cold bodies – but a lot of warm hearts. It would be wonderful if anyone could contribute to my charities which do such great work for people right here in the borough.”
