Hartlepool Power Station to remain in operation
A decision has been made on the future of Hartlepool power station
A decision has been made on the future of Hartlepool power station - which will come as a relief for the hundreds of staff working there.
Operator EDF say the site will continue providing electricity until 2027.
The station had been due to end generation at the end of March 2026, but after a review of the plant and its 2 reactors, EDF have decided the station will continue producing power until the end of March 2027.
Mark Lees, Hartlepool Power Station Director, said;
"This extension is great news for this town, this region and, indeed, the country."
They employ around 500 staff at the plant and additional contractors.
