Stockton man jailed for threats with meat cleaver and attacking woman

Police have praised the victim's bravery

A man has started a four year prison sentence, for making threats with a meat cleaver in Stockton, and attacking a woman.

Police were sent to Hardwick on 21st January 2024, after reports Ashley Dalkin was carrying a meat cleaver in the street.

The 33-year-old held the weapon to a woman's throat, and waved it towards a man, before smashing a vehicle window.

Prior to this, he had attacked a woman, punching her several times.

Dalkin, from Stockton, was arrested and charged with charged with controlling and coercive behaviour, assault causing actual bodily harm, threatening a person with a bladed article and criminal damage.

At Teesside Crown Court in July, he pleaded guilty to all four offences. At the same court yesterday (31st October), he was sentenced.

PC Hood, from Cleveland Police, said: "This was a particularly terrifying incident which involved an extremely dangerous weapon on a residential street.

"Tackling violence against women and girls is a priority for Cleveland Police and we will continue to work with victims and support them throughout our investigations and any court process.

"The bravery and courage shown by the victim in this case is truly incredible and I’d like to thank her for her unwavering support throughout this process."
