11 year old arrested in connection with police car being torched in Hartlepool

A 11-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a police vehicle was reportedly set alight on Dent Street in Hartlepool yesterday evening, Wednesday 31st July, during disorder in the town.

Cleveland Police Assistant Chief Constable David Felton said: “This is very much a live investigation and we are continuing to work to identify those involved in the disorder yesterday evening and bring them to justice.

“Disorder of this kind will not be tolerated and those found to be involved will be robustly dealt with.”

This comes as seven men have been charged after disorder was reported in Hartlepool on the evening of Wednesday 31st July.

All seven men have been remanded in custody and are due to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court today, Friday 2nd August.

• Five men aged 28, 33, 41, 47 and 54 have been charged with violent disorder.

• A 42-year-old man has been charged with violent disorder and assault by beating of an emergency worker.

• A 28-year-old man has been charged with violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Officers continue to have a visible presence in the area to reassure and protect the community.
