The owner of an American Bully dog, which attacked three dogs in Brighton city centre, has been banned from keeping a dog for two years.

Christopher Coffey, 27, of no fixed address, appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 29 October, where an order was made for the dog to be destroyed.

He received a community order, for being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, after his dog attacked a dog on a lead near Pavilion Buildings on 6 July, another dog on a lead, taking the owner to the ground, in North Street on 15 April - and another dog on a lead, taking a number of people to separate them in Gloucester Road, on 4 May.

He had failed to comply with a community protection order, to keep the dog muzzled and on a lead in public.

Coffey is required to undertake rehabilitation, as part of a community order for possessing a Class A drug.

The magistrate ordered the dog be destroyed after 21 days, giving Coffey time to appeal.

Police Constable Mark Woodard said: “We understand the distress these incidents must have caused and hope the court orders will provide some reassurance.”
