Ipswich Witches' 2022 season gets underway later today, with an all East Anglia clash against King's Lynn.

The speedway team start their campaign with an early chance for some silverware at the Foxhall Stadium in the League Cup.

But the Witches will need to hit the ground running to progress out of the group stages of the competition.

Witches had a disappointing 2021, finishing 5th in the table. Ipswich have made four changes for 2022, inlcuding the signing of former world champion Jason Doyle.

Captain Danny King told us:

"This year's team we've got a nice mix of youth and experience. We've got an ex-world champion in Australian Jason Doyle, which is great for the team.

"We've got myself, another Australian Cameron Heeps and then we have a German rider called Erik Riss. He's an up and coming rider so its exciting to have him with the Witches this year."

"We have some other guys in the bottom end of the team as well...some good youngsters coming through, so its an exciting team."

King is confident Witches will have a successful season:

"It would mean a lot, certainly for Ipswich... I've been there 13 years now. We're long overdue some silverware. I really like the look of the team this year, so obviously that's going to be our goal."

"The crowd's great... there's only 7 riders in the team but the home crowd can often be the eighth man.

"Even last year after a bad year for the team they were still right behind us. I know they're going to be behind us this year."
