Tributes paid to 'much loved husband' who died in crash near Sproughton
Police are still appealing for witnesses of the crash
A family has paid tribute to a man who died following a collision on the A14 near Sproughton in June.
The collision occurred shortly after 5.40pm on Tuesday 4 June, on the A14 westbound between junctions 54 and 53, and involved a car, van and a motorcycle.
A motorcyclist sadly died at the scene.
Subject to confirmation at formal inquest proceedings, the deceased has been identified as Kevin Doherty, 45, from Somersham.
Kevin’s family have asked Suffolk Constabulary to issue the following tributes on their behalf:
The below tribute is from his wife and family:
“Kev was the much loved and hugely missed husband to Toni, a proud father of three children and loving grandson, son, brother and uncle.
“Kev was a loyal Ipswich Town FC fan and enjoyed many highs, and suffered many lows, throughout his time supporting the Blues. He was extremely excited to see them back in the Premier League and seeing some matches with his family.
“He was a homebody who took joy in the simple things; a family walk taking photos of the local scenery, trips to the beach to hunt for sharks’ teeth with the children or for chips and an ice cream.
“He had a dark sense of humour and a quick, dry wit and a while he was a private man, he was a sentimental softie at heart, fiercely protective of his family and friends, of which he had many and he will be missed by them all.
“Kev’s death has shocked us all and as a family, we take it day by day to adjust to this new normal without him. We will miss him every day but treasure the memories we were lucky enough to make with him.”
The following tribute is from his parents and family:
“Kevin, who liked to be known as Kev, was the beloved son to Wendy and Graham, loving brother to Darren and Laura and much loved first grandchild to Joyce. Kev was a devoted husband to Toni, a loving father of two sons and a daughter and doting uncle to four nieces and a nephew. Kevin was loved dearly by all his family, and we will forever cherish the memories we have.
“He grew up in the Stoke Park area of Ipswich, attending Halifax Primary and Stoke High School. Kev and his siblings were very close growing up, doing everything together and the family have fond memories, particularly of the family holidays that they took together.
“His passing has left a void in our family and our hearts that can never be filled. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.”
Officers continue to appeal for any witnesses to the collision.
In particular, any motorists driving in the area at the time of the incident with a dashcam fitted in their vehicle are asked to review the footage for any material that may be of assistance.
