Suffolk driver avoids jail after being caught nearly four times over drink drive limit

A woman from Trimley St Martin has been disqualified from driving for 36 months after driving whilst under the influence of alcohol.
Maria Ball, aged 46 years, of Cavendish Gardens appeared at Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday 10 June and pleaded guilty to drink driving.
On Thursday 2 May 2024, at approximately 12:45pm, a member of the public spotted Ball driving a Vauxhall Adam car on High Road, Trimley and believing her to be intoxicated, flagged down a passing police patrol vehicle.
Ball provided a roadside breath test to police of 158ugs and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taken to to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre where an evidential breath test was performed, giving a lower reading of 138ugs.
The legal limit is 35ugs. Ball was subsequently charged with drink driving.
Ball was sentenced to 20 weeks imprisonment, suspended for 24 months and was banned from driving for 36 months and must also attend a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.
Court costs were awarded of £85 and a victim surcharge of £154.
