Two former headteachers in Suffolk have been banned from teaching indefinitely after it was found they had locked pupils in classrooms.

Ofsted inspectors first raised concerns about classroom locks being used at The Bridge special school in 2017.

In September 2017, concerns were raised by Suffolk County Council about the use of classroom locks being used.

A investigation was subsequently launched.

Following misconduct hearings, it has been ruled that Odran Doran and Simon Black are no longer allowed to teach.

The Bridge School caters for children with significant special educational needs, and has a high proportion of students who have autistic spectrum disorder, and sensory processing disorder.

The majority of the students at The Bridge School were either non-verbal or pre-verbal.

In a report, it was alleged that Mr Doran was guilty of unacceptable professional conduct that may bring the profession into disrepute whilst employed as a headteacher by The Bridge School between 1st September 1988 and 31st August 2018.

Mr Doran denies the allegations.

Meanwhile, in a separate report, it was alleged that Mr Simon Black was also guilty of unacceptable professional conduct that may bring the profession into disrepute, while being employed as a head teacher at the school, which Mr Black denies.
