Suffolk Police crackdown on 'fatal four' traffic offences
They're the most common factors involved in collisions where people are killed or seriously injured
Suffolk Police have launched a campaign to crack down on what they call the 'fatal four' traffic offences.
The 'fatal four' are what the force has identified as the most common factors involved in collisions where people are killed or seriously injured:
Excess Speed
Using a Mobile Phone
Failing to wear a seatbelt
Drink and Drug Driving
They tell us officers will be targeting drivers committing any of the above offences, to help protect other roads users and reduce the number of people coming to harm.
Alongside a crackdown, police say they'll also work to raise awareness and engage with our county's road users to educate them about how impactive their decisions can be whilst driving.
Chief Inspector Vicky McParland, of the joint Roads and Armed Policing Team said: "We do not run safety campaigns because we like to ‘catch’ people.
"We run these campaigns every year because people are still losing their lives on Suffolk's roads as a result of the selfish behaviours of others behind the wheel.
“If this campaign can change the behaviour and choices of drivers, and as a result they do not use their phone, wear their seatbelt, stick to the speed limit or don’t drive after drinking or using drugs then I think we all agree it is worth it."
