Peterborough United fan banned from matches for spitting at Ipswich Town's Wes Burns
He won't be able to attend any games for the next three years
A Peterborough United fan has been banned from matches for the next three years - for spitting at Ipswich Town's Wes Burns during a game earlier this year.
It happened after Town took a 1 - nil lead at the Weston Homes Stadium on April 22.
Wes, the goalscorer, was targeted as he celebrated in front of the stands. The match ultimately ended 3 - nil to Ipswich.
45 year old Leroy Miller, of Black Prince Avenue in Market Deeping, was arrested and later charged with public order offences.
He was fined £200 and handed a Football Banning Order at Peterborough Magistrates Court yesterday (April 25).
It means he is banned from entering any football grounds to watch matches for the next three years.
PC Mike Price, Cambridgeshire Police's Dedicated Football Officer for PUFC, said: “This was totally unacceptable behaviour towards the Ipswich players."
"Not only that, but Miller was also sat in an area of the ground surrounded by families who would have witnessed this.
"There is no place for this type of conduct inside a football ground.”
Sye Roberts, Head of Safety, Risk and Compliance for PUFC, said: “Whilst working in partnership with Cambridgeshire Constabulary, the club identified and ejected Miller within a short period of time.
“Incidents of this nature are unacceptable, regardless of who spectators support or what’s happening on the pitch.
"Not only is this incident an offence, but it is also damaging to the Peterborough United brand.
"We received thousands of comments on social media and many media articles were published about the incident.”
