Orford Ness looks for new ferry operator
The nature reserve and former military site is offering a rare opportunity for someone to pilot its 12-seater ferry
An 'extremely rare opportunity' to work as the ferry boat operator at Orford Ness is being offered by the National Trust.
It's looking for an experienced sailor to look after operations off the shingle spit, which is the largest of its kind in Europe.
The site is currently accessed via the 12 seater ferry Octavia, which sails from Orford Quay.
Orford Ness is designated as a National Nature Reserve and is home to rare wildlife, as well as the remains of an experimental military radar site, dating back to the 1960s.
The applicant will need to be an 'experienced boat operator' with professional qualifications and a good knowledge of how to maintain a boat.
The trust is also looking for a good communicator who can work as part of the team which manages the site.
