A new 'ability swing' which can be used by wheelchair users is to be installed at an Ipswich play area.

It'll be built at the new Roman Play Villa in Castle Hill, as part of a programme of improvements funded by the council.

The swing allows young people who use wheelchairs to swing without needing to be lifted into a seat.

Councillor Phil Smart, of Ipswich Borough Council, said:

“This great equipment has a platform for a wheelchair that enables a child to swing without needing to lift themselves or be lifted into a seat.

"Their friend can also swing alongside them. As well as helping independence this also makes for a more inclusive experience.

“This is the first swing of this type to be installed in Ipswich in the first Play Area to be improved.

"The Council’s Play Area Strategy will deliver a timetable of improvements over the next five years and with an emphasis on inclusive play for all ages and abilities.”
