Work has started on a new David Lloyd health club in Bury St Edmunds, with an opening date set for 2024.

The new leisure facility is being build at Marham Park, off Sandlands Drive.

The club will feature a gym, heated indoor and outdoor pools, cycling studios and indoor and outdoor tennis courts.

A spa including a sauna, steam rooms and hydrotherapy pool beds is also set to be built.

Martin Leach, Managing Director, Vistry Major Projects, said: ‘We are very excited to be welcoming David Lloyd Clubs to Marham Park."

"The start of work on-site marks a major milestone and will significantly improve the health and wellness facilities and wider offering at the development.

"We look forward to seeing the next stages of construction unfold over the coming months.’

Stuart Caswell from David Lloyd Leisure said: “Marham Park is a fantastic development, easily accessible for the whole of Bury St. Edmunds and surrounding communities; we are delighted to be part of its promising future."

"Our broad range of premium, family-focused health and wellness facilities appeal to people of all ages and lifestages and we look forward to welcoming the local community into the club in 2024.”

Construction on the David Lloyd project starts as the Western Way development, a plan for a new publicly owned leisure centre in Bury, faces the axe.
