Man shot by air weapon in Newmarket

A man has been arrested, after a firearm incident in Newmarket.
Police were called to Granary Road by the ambulance service at around 6.35am today (Wednesday 25 June), following reports that a man had been shot to the chest by an air weapon inside a premises.
Police, the East of England Ambulance service and a volunteer paramedic from Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) were all in attendance to the incident.
The victim, a man aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital with injuries not considered life-changing or life-threatening.
At approximately 8:40am, a 56-year-old-man was arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
He was also arrested on suspicion of driving whilst under the influence of alcohol, having failed a roadside breath test.
The victim and suspect are believed to be known to each other and as such, there is no wider threat to the public following this incident.
