Major plans to regenerate part of Sudbury unveiled

Major plans to transform part of Sudbury have been unveiled and are due to be voted on by councillors next month.

The 'Hamilton Road Quarter' development would be located between the high street and the railway station.

It would be a mixed-used development, including new homes and shops, as well as the possibility of a new cinema and hotel.

The plans are at a very early stage and Babergh District Councillors will be asked to agree to the project 'in principle' next week.

They'll also be asked to approve ÂŁ500,000 in funding to develop the scheme, by carrying out studies on its potential economic impact.

Once the fine details are worked out the full plan will go before the Council's cabinet later in the year.

Commenting on the proposal, Councillor John Ward, Babergh District Council’s leader said:

“The regeneration of the Hamilton Road Quarter will transform a dilapidated part of the town and provide a significant economic boost for Sudbury.

"There are many benefits to bringing forward a mixed-use development which include attracting investment into the town, creating job opportunities and better walking and cycling connections through Sudbury.

“The Hamilton Road Quarter regeneration will also bring new and sustainable homes into the heart of Sudbury and support our ambition to create thriving, attractive and sustainable communities in our vibrant market town.”
