Residents evacuated as firefighters deal with blaze on Knodishall Common
Fire crews from across the county were called last night
Firefighters from across Suffolk have been dealing with a serious blaze in Knodishall Common overnight.
Residents nearby were evacuated temporarily last night as a precaution and taken to a local community centre which had been set up to offer support.
Over 20 crews were on the scene at its height - with the first call coming in just before 8pm on Sunday.
Group Manager Wil Tel gave this update from the scene:
Police and ambulance crews also assisted on the scene, as well as UK Power Networks, volunteers and local residents.
Fire warning
People are being reminded with the weather and ground still dry it can be very very easy to start a fire which will spread quickly.
Suffolk Fire is urging people not to have open fires or BBQs in public spaces at the moment, pick up their litter, and not throw cigarette butts into the open.
It's urging people to be cautious with warm temperatures set to stay this summer.
It comes after the service had to declare a Major Incident last week due to the volume of calls it was receiving.
