The MP for Ipswich, Tom Hunt, has expressed his support for a bid to improve the BMX track at Landseer Park.

In a letter to the head of the People's Health Trust, he highlighted the importance of the facility to young people in the Gainsborough community, particularly when lockdown restrictions are eventually lifted.

Mr Hunt has been working with the Ipswich BMX Club to gain additional funding from British Cycling, Sports England and Ipswich Borough Council over the last year.

In a post on Facebook he said: "While the dedication of the Ipswich BMX Club has resulted in significant progress over recent months, we still have a way to go in order to ensure that work can continue on this vital community asset. That is why a grant from the People’s Health Trust would be incredibly valuable."

He continued: "I really believe that getting the renovation of the BMX track is a vital community project. Particularly as we begin come out of this year of pandemic, I am mindful of the affect that it has had on both the physical and mental wellbeing of young people in Ipswich and I believe that this project will promote both of these aspects in our local community. "

He also believes it will help reduce antisocial behaviour in the town by "providing another avenue to keep our young people occupied".
