Haverhill man jailed for being found with a knife

A man has been sentenced for being in possession of a knife in Haverhill.

Alan Mizon, aged 50 and of Landseer Court in Haverhill, appeared at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 13 June where he pleaded guilty to possession of a knife in a public place.

Police were called just before 6:50pm on 29 March following reports that a man walking along the High Street was in possession of a knife.

Officers attended and located him within a public house on Market Hill where he was searched and found to be carrying a 15-inch blade.

He was arrested and taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning and was subsequently charged.

Mizon has been sentenced to 18 weeks imprisonment. He was also sentenced to 12 weeks’ imprisonment for breach of a molestation order, to be served consecutively, and ordered to pay compensation of £500.
