Police have confirmed a suspicious package found on a bench in Christchurch Park in Ipswich yesterday did not pose a threat to the public.

Officers were called around 4.10pm on Sunday 10th April.

As a precaution the park was closed, including Christchurch Mansion, with members of the public asked to leave.

Around 30 homes in nearby Westerfield Road, Bolton Lane and Tuddenham Road were also evacuated before the device was looked at properly.

Bomb disposal teams were called to the scene.

Police have thanked people for their patience, understanding and co-operation while the incident was ongoing.
