Suffolk wildlife park Africa Alive say they're 'devastated' after having to put down their eight month old cheetah cub,

Zuri was put to sleep on Sunday. She was suffering from congenital health issues and her condition took a turn for the worse after she had trouble walking.

She was born to mum Kilima and dad Dayo last August and was the first cheetah cub to be born at the park in over a decade.

The death is a blow to conservation efforts. There are only around 5,000 cheetahs remaining in the wild and Zuri's birth took careful planning by staff at Africa Alive and Banham Zoo.

In a statement, Africa Alive said:

"Our thoughts at this difficult time are with our wonderful keepers for the care they gave Zuri and exploring every possible option first.

"We are very grateful for the dedication and care they give our animals daily and for the professionalism they have shown during this time."
