The emotional reunion which left Tom Grennan holding back tears 🥲

Here at Hits Radio we just can't get enough of Tom Grennan. The singer, who joined us at Hits Radio Live for both fantastic nights, returned to Hits Radio to chat to Fleur East, James and Matt. During the chat the team asked Tom about his plans for Christmas, his new Christmas song, and they even surprised him with his inspirational teacher, and mum!

Back in November, Tom joined Fleur East for our Off The Record series, where he opened up about a life-changing accident. During the chat, Tom also talked about his inspirational teacher Miss Cooper (Coops). After hearing how she had helped Tom when he was really struggling, we managed to get hold of her, and surprised him, see the moment below.

Tom was also surprised by his mum, and Tom opened up about why Miss Cooper and his mum were the two women he looked up to in his life, and why they were his rocks.

"What a lovely surprise. I love this!" Tom said, continuing: "Two women who have just been, yeah, rocks in my life. Two women who I look up to, and what a lovely surprise you’re going to make me cry."

When Fleur asked his mum if she knew of the impact Miss Cooper had on her son, she explained: "It was really hard and there were so many different things going on."

Miss Cooper added: "One of his best friends, but his cousin died in a car crash that year. He (Tom) was severely attacked and it took Tom and Claire to a really dark place."

Tom went on to explain how during this dark him music helped him heal, telling the team: "I remember when I first wrote like a song in my room, (it) wasn't very good, but it was like it was more of a confession to my mum for what I was going through. I've let my steam out and that's my healing process, that’s the way I'm communicating and getting my point across and what not, so yeah, the power of create and the power of music."

He continued: "Actually having this surprise this morning, I don't know, I needed it right now, just hearing my mum and Miss Cooper... I've never done it for money, never done it for fame, never like to be honest with you, none of that really interests me.

"I remember singing my first songs and just seeing like people's reactions change, like in the pubs where like a fellow would be at a pint on his own and his head would turn and it's a connection straight away... That's connection and that's what I live for, I love that."
