Staffordshire Police launch appeal after woman's body found in Stoke

Staffordshire Police are appealing for information and witnesses following the discovery of a woman's body in Stoke.

Officers were first alerted to reports of a woman being found unresponsive at around 4:15am on Sunday morning (September 1st).

Responders attended the scene on Foundry Street in Hanley, with emergency services performing CPR on the victim.

However, despite the best efforts of the paramedics and police officers that responded, the woman - believed to be in her 50s - was pronounced dead a short time later.

The force has said the woman is yet to be formally identified and that they are currently looking for the victim's next of kin.

The woman's body was found on Foundry Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.

In a statement, officers have said they are "keeping an open mind" around the circumstances around the woman's death.

As well as this, detectives investigating the case have said that the woman's death is being treated as "unexplained", though no arrests have yet been made.

A police cordon has been set up across Foundry Street as officers look at the scene trying to piece the events that led to her death together.

As a result, Foundry Street is closed to usual traffic and drivers are being asked to make alternative travel arrangements.

Those who may have any information or may have been in the area at the time of the discovery is being urged to come forward as soon as possible.
