A recycling company in Stoke-on-Trent has launched a project to bring a set of its skips back to life with the help of local artists.

Brown Recycling is running a Skip Art Challenge which hopes to find ten talented artists to transform ten refurbished skips into 'extraordinary' works of art, whilst also raising money for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice.

The project is being run in conjunction with Short Supply, a NW-based artist-led organisation, with those interested asked to submit their design ideas and sketches to the organisation for consideration.

The selected artists will work on their designs at Brown Recycling’s premises during August with the completed skips being on display at a Skip Art Challenge event in Stoke early September. The completed skips will then be brought back into use as part of the active fleet and will be seen and used across Staffordshire and South Cheshire.

Businesses have been invited sponsor a skip and to sponsor the art supply for the creative artists. A special event will also take place for individuals to meet with their artist and view their works.

Proceeds from the Brown Recycling Skip Art Challenge will be donated to Dougie Mac Hospice and there will also be a dedicated Just Giving page for any additional donations.

Mitch Brown, Co-Managing Director at Brown Recycling commented: “We’re excited to be launching the Brown Recycling Skip Art Challenge, and to be commissioning 10 talented artists to transform our skips with their creative designs. With the finished skips going into our fleet, they will bring some colour and fun to our customers across Staffordshire and South Cheshire. It’s also great to be able to support Dougie Mac in the process. They do such great work for those with life limiting conditions and we are always happy to do our bit to help their fundraising”.
