A plastic surgeon from Knutsford says he is concerned over allegations that cosmetic procedures are being carried out in unregulated settings, including in hotel rooms.

Last week, a Council in the north west said it was made aware that certain procedures, specifically Filler Brazilian Butt Lift and breast augmentation, may be taking place in in non-clinical settings.

According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, BBL's have the highest death rate (thought to be as high as 1 in 3,000 operations) of all cosmetic surgery procedures, due to the risk of injecting fat into large veins that can travel to the heart or brain and cause severe illness and death.

Reza Nassab is a consultant plastic surgeon. He said: "You're putting your life at risk, just to save a few pounds, is it really worth it?

"The industry has become extremely unregulated in the UK and there's ease of access to products and none of that is monitored or regulated.

"It needs to be done in a sterile environment, it's very high risk if you're injecting any foreign object into the body, it's a very high risk of infection and if you do get infections that can be very problematic and can cause a lot of issues.

"It's likely these individuals may be using lower quality products, which probably have not been approved or have any sort of safety records behind them.

"The clinic or location where they're having the procedure done should be CQC registered, that's the same organisation that oversees hospitals... So that ensures that they meet a safety requirement."
