A man who seriously injured another man after smashing a glass into his neck in Cannock has pleaded guilty in court.

Robert Grainger, 41, of Wolverhampton, admitted wounding and inflicting grievous bodily harm at Stafford Crown Court on Monday (16 June).

The force were called to the One Stop shop on Longford Road, back in April.

Officers say Grainger and the victim, a man in his 30s, are seen on CCTV speaking to each other, resulting in a confrontation.

Grainger, who was holding a glass, smashed it into the victim’s neck, causing a deep laceration. Grainger walked off after it happened, leaving the victim with significant injuries in the street.

Police say the victim managed to walk to a family member’s house. They called 999 after seeing his injuries, where the victim then went into cardiac arrest and was rushed to hospital.

He has since been discharged from hospital, but suffered life-changing injuries.

His left arm is now paralyzed and he is still undergoing medical treatment at various hospitals.

Detectives linked Grainger to the case after trawling CCTV and arrested him on 3 May.

After pleading guilty to the offence in court this week, Grainger has been remanded ahead of his sentencing at Stafford Crown Court on 21 August.
