A man has died after a collision involving two cars in Drayton Bassett, near Tamworth, this morning.

Police were called at 6.40am today (Wednesday 8 January) to reports of a collision involving a silver Ford Fiesta and a white BMW coupe on Sutton Road in Mile Oak.

The driver of the Ford, a 20-year-old man, was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

The driver of the BMW, a 27-year-old man, was taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution.

Highways have been informed and the A453 Sutton Road is due to be closed for a number of hours at the junctions of Slade Road, Bassets Pole and Drayton Lane.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman says: “On arrival, crews found a man in a critical condition receiving CPR.

“Ambulance staff immediately took over to administer advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, he could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene.”

“The driver of the second car, a man, was treated by medics for injuries not believed to be serious before he was conveyed to Good Hope Hospital.”

Anyone who saw what happened or recalls seeing either of the vehicles beforehand or may have relevant dashcam footage is urged to contact Staffordshire Police.
