M6 shut in Staffordshire after fire and fuel spill

National Highways say we should expect long delays in the area as they deal with the incident

The M6 is shut northbound in Staffordshire with a warning of long delays for motorists.

It's after emergency services were called near Stafford at just after 8.30am this morning after reports a vehicle was on fire.

Fire crews have been tackling the blaze, where there is also diesel spill affecting the carriageway.

The northbound side is shut between junction 14 and 15 with diversions in operation along the A34 and A500.

National Highways said, "The M6 in Staffordshire is closed northbound between J14 and J15 near (Stafford) due to a vehicle fire and large diesel spillage affecting all lanes.

"Staffs fire are leading the response with National Highways Traffic Officers providing assistance with traffic management."
