Body pulled from water at popular Staffordshire lake

Emergency services say the discovery was made yesterday morning

A woman's body has been pulled from the water at a popular lake in Staffordshire./

Emergency services say a member of the public first made the discovery just before 8am yesterday.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say that her death is currently being treated as "unexplained", with specialist now supporting the woman's family.

In a statement, Staffordshire Police said: "We were called at 7.50am this morning (Sunday, December 29) to reports of a body in the water at Rudyard Lake, Rudyard, near Leek. A woman’s body was recovered from the water by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Sadly, she was pronounced dead just before 9.30am.

"The woman’s next of kin has been informed. We are working to establish the circumstances leading to the woman’s death. We’re currently treating the death as unexplained and no suspicious circumstances have been found at this stage."
