Two people have been arrested following a fatal hit-and-run collision in Stoke-on-Trent that claimed the life of 51-year-old Christopher Deaville.

The incident happened at around 9pm on Friday 11 April on Newcastle Lane in Penkhull, where a black car struck Mr Deaville and failed to stop.

He sadly died from his injuries at the scene. His family is being supported by specially-trained officers.

As part of their investigation, detectives recovered a badly damaged black Mini Cooper abandoned in an alleyway near Birks Street. The vehicle had been reported stolen overnight between 9 and 10 April from York Road in Stafford.

Following further enquiries, officers arrested a 27-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent on Tuesday 15 April. Both remain in custody on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police believe the Mini was being driven at speed along Newcastle Lane, past the Marquis of Granby pub, before continuing onto Penkhull New Road, turning onto London Road, and eventually being abandoned in the Boothen Old Road area.

Officers are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage of the Mini's movements on the night of the collision to come forward.
