The Official Manchester United website has released fitness updates on Bastian Schweinsteiger and Chris Smalling.

United have clarified that Chris Smalling has had food poisoning which resulted in him fainting on Sunday.

The 26-year-old defender is currently on holiday in Bali following England’s early exit from the European Championships 2016 after their 2-1 defeat to Iceland.

Initial reports arising from the media suggested that Smalling had been stung by a Jelly fish, following images of him signing autographs whilst in hospital.

However United were quick to quash the rumours regarding the England player, with a brief update on their Website.

The statement told that “The defender was taken to the hospital and is now feeling fine. Chris would like to thank everyone for their well wishes.”

Smalling is expected to return back to Carrington for pre-season training later this month.

The website also told that midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is 'doubtful' for Germany’s Euro 2016 semi-final clash against the hosts France.

The thirty-one-year-old Schweinsteiger sustained a knee injury when Germany beat Italy despite a 1-1 draw.

The former Bayern star missed his penalty however was still able to see his side progress following the longest penalty shoot-out in Euro history.

Germany Coach Joachim Low commented, “I hope and wish that Bastian can make it. But one thing is clear. I will definitely not let anyone who is not 100 per cent fit play.

“It's a really bitter blow when important players are side-lined at the crucial stage of the tournament," he added.

"It was clear we would need Bastian over the course of the tournament. He did well, he worked hard and it was important to have his experience on the pitch.

“You need different players in such a tournament. It is not unusual for players to pick up injuries or suspensions.”

Germany face an in-form French side who triumphed over Iceland with a 5-2 Victory on Sunday and have a weakened side due to the absences of Mario Gomez, Matts Hummels and Sami Khedira.
