Amgen Irish Open: McIlroy bags title after thrilling play-off
The Holywood superstar brands his win "absolutely amazing."
Rory McIlroy came through a dramatic three-hole play-off to win his second Irish Open golf title.
The Holywood superstar, who earlier his year won a career Grand Slam after bagging his first Masters title, beat Sweden's Joakim Lagergren at the K Club in County Kildare.
McIlroy held his nerve to win after three tense play-off holes on the 18th.
It was the first time he had lifted the trophy in nine years, and his first tournament success since becoming Masters champion in April.
The World number two produced a stunning eagle on the final hole in regular play, to force the play-off.
He branded his victory "absolutely amazing."
"I was able to pull some out of the bag on 18 and make that eagle - and that moment will go down as one of the coolest moments of my career," he said.
"Just incredible week - the support, the atmosphere out there absolutely amazing to play in front of those crowds and even more amazing to get the job done in front of them as well."
