Over 100 vehicles were seized from South Yorkshire roads during a crackdown on uninsured drivers.

Officers typically seize around 10 uninsured cars daily, but during the recent operation, this number rose to an average of 15 per day, resulting in a total of 106 vehicles being taken off the roads.

The increased recovery of uninsured vehicles was part of a national initiative that ran from 10th to 17th November 2025 in collaboration with the Motor Insurers’ Bureau.

Roads Policing Sergeant Martyn Micklethwaite, from South Yorkshire Police, highlighted the risks associated with drivers operating without insurance, stating they are more likely to take risks and be involved in serious or fatal collisions.

"People see driving without insurance as a victimless crime, but that couldn’t be further from the truth," Micklethwaite said.

"Law-abiding people also pay the price for their consequences, with higher premiums.

"Every day we seize vehicles, but this week’s focus on uninsured drivers highlights our firm commitment to making the roads safer for everyone."

Drivers found operating uninsured vehicles face a minimum £300 fine and six penalty points on their driving licence.

Further consequences, such as court appearances and potential driving bans, are also possible.
