South Yorkshire police 'concerned' about rising number of dog attacks involving Cane Corsos
A year on from the XL bully ban - the force says they're still facing an 'unprecedented' demand on their services
More than a year since XL Bully dogs were banned in the UK - we're told Cane Corsos are now responsible for a lot of 'vicious' dog attacks in South Yorkshire.
The region's police force says earlier this month - a teenager suffered a 'life changing, horrific injury' at the hands of one whilst at home.
Chief Inspector Emma Cheney is the force lead at South Yorkshire Police when it comes to handling dangerous dog incidents:
"My concern is that as we get on top of the XL bully ban - owners will move towards other large, powerful, bull breeds.
"We're already seeing an increase in other powerful dogs that aren't yet illegal.
"The first one that comes to mind is the Cane Corso.
"Just last week, we've seen a 16-year-old child attacked in their home, which's caused horrific, life-changing injuries."
In the last 12 months, it's been illegal to own an XL bully without an exemption certificate - while they're are only allowed out in public with a muzzle on.
