Sheffield Wednesday Chairman Dejphon Chansiri says a dispute over money has led to a fresh holdup in the sale of the beleaguered Championship club.
In a lengthy statement posted on the Owls website, Chansiri says he wants to "clarify inaccuracies" over negotiations, claiming a £5m deposit to enable talks with a US consortium never arrived.
He also claims a representative from the US consortium failed to turn up to a meeting on Zoom earlier this month.
"I can assure everyone that I did everything possible to try and complete a deal but I was left to think, if this is how the consortium are at this stage, how can I be sure they are the right people to look after the club?": Chansiri wrote.
"I take full responsibility for being unable to fulfil my current obligations, but a further obligation I have is to ensure that if the club is sold, it is sold to the right people with the right credentials who can sustain Sheffield Wednesday and take the club forward.
"I understand our fans are not happy and wish for me to sell, which some have said when contacting me direct.
"All I ask is please do not believe everything you read in the media or on social media."
Wednesday are currently under three window fee restriction by the EFL, after the club failed to pay players and staff for 30 days.
Both club and owner were charged over a failure to pay wages for May, after previous payment issues in April.
This latest punishment will cover the summer transfer window, as well as the two windows following in the winter and next summer.
Just yesterday former Owls owner Milan Mandaric confirmed he wasn't moving forward with his own bid to take the club back, in order to allow other parties to move on with their own bids.
Wednesday finished 12th in the Championship last season - and manager Danny Rohl has been linked with a move away during the summer.
