Former Imam from Sheffield jailed for 13 years for child sexual offences
The 57 year old has been convicted over the abuse, which happened at Bradford Grand Mosque in the 1990s.
A former Bradford Imam has been jailed for 13 years, for the sexual abuse of a boy at one of the UK's largest mosques.
57 year old Mohammed Hanif Khan, of Blagden Street in Sheffield, was working at Bradford Grand Mosque at the time of the offending.
He raped the teenage victim on five different occasions, with Bradford Crown Court hearing about a previous conviction for sexual assault in 2009 for which he was handed a 16 year sentence.
He will also spend three years out on extended licence upon release.
Acting Detective Chief Inspector Laura Casey, of West Yorkshire Police, said:
“Khan was in a position of trust when he committed this horrific abuse on a child.
“As an Iman he was looked up to by students and family members within the community.
“He stole his victims' childhood. I would like to praise the bravery and courage of the victim for coming forward and reporting these crimes to us.
“I hope today provides some comfort in knowing that Khan will be spending a long time behind bars.
“The passage of time does not affect our dedication to ensuring victims are listened to, placed at the very heart of operations and supported by specialist services for as long as they need.
“This sentence serves as a timely reminder that no matter how long ago these offences took place, we will investigate and bring perpetrators to the courts.”
