Police are treating the death of a man whose body was discovered in a Sheffield canal yesterday as unexplained.

Investigations are continuing after the 39 year old was pulled from the Tinsley Canal near to Staniforth Road in the Darnall area after 7pm yesterday (June 10).

South Yorkshire Police has also referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct as it's believed officers had contact with the man before his death.

It's alleged he turned up a police enquiry desk the same evening to ask about property.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101.
