Seven people have been arrested following planned protests in Sheffield city centre yesterday (8 November).

A full policing operation was in place along with legal conditions which were imposed under Sections 12 and 14 of the Public Order Act 1986 in order to ensure public safety.

South Yorkshire Police said all groups dispersed safely, with no injuries reported.

Four men, aged 54, 39, 33 and 23, and a 34-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of breaching the legal conditions.

A 38-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, with a 39-year-old man arrested on suspicion of affray.

Chief Inspector Jon Greaves said: "I would like to thank members of the public, city centre businesses and partners for their patience and cooperation during the course of the day.

"Many people protested lawfully and peacefully while adhering to the legal conditions imposed, but there were some who chose not to and were subsequently arrested by our officers.

"We respect the rights of everyone to take part in lawful and peaceful protests but we will not tolerate criminality or anti-social behaviour."

People who may have experienced any threatening behaviour or wish to report any crime or anti-social behaviour, are being urged to contact police on 101 or make a report via their website.
