Rotherham United FC have confirmed that manager Steve Evans has been sacked as the club's manager after a year in the job.

In a statement, the League One club said that the decision was made following a meeting between the Chairman and the manager on Sunday morning (March 30th).

Evans had been reappointed as the club's manager in April last year, going on to lead all 50 games in his stint before he was let go.

As well as this, other top management officials - including Paul Raynor, Gary Mills and Ian Pledger - have been sacked with immediate effect.

The statement from the club read: "Everyone at Rotherham United would like to thank Steve, Paul and their coaching team for all their efforts and wish them well in their future endeavours."

Following this, the club added that Matt Hanshaw will take over as the club's manager, with Andy Warrington serving as Second Team Manager, until the end of the season.

The club said that following the release of the statement, there would be no further comment on the matter.

Evans' sacking came after the Millers suffered a dismal 4-0 defeat during Saturday's clash with Crawley Town on home turf.

Following the game, Evans apologised to fans for their poor result, adding: "Fans don't want to hear apologies, they want to see the performance to be right."
