Two teenagers have been handed time in a young offenders institution, after an unprovoked stabbing on a man in Rotherham last year.

19 year olds Alex Gee and Alex Winson assaulted the man as he was playing football in Bradgate Park on August 6.

He suffered several stab wounds before managed to escape with his friends. He has now recovered from his injuries.

Both Gee and Winson denied being in the park but police were able to prove their whereabouts using CCTV images and data from their phones.

Gee, of Rother View Road, Canklow, will be detained for three years and nine months.

Winson, of Maynard Road, Moorgate, will serve a three year and eight month sentence.

Investigating Officer Rachel Scott, of South Yorkshire Police, said:

"Gee and Winson attended that park on the day with the intention of causing harm. They came armed and launched an attack on a completely unsuspecting victim - leaving him with several stab wounds.

"We remain full committed to tackling knife crime violence, removing these dangerous weapons from our streets and keeping Rotherham a safe place to live, work and visit for everyone."
