Armed police were called to a home in Rotherham yesterday after reports of a gun being fired.

Officers went to the address on Guild Road at 12:33am, finding a man injured and evidence of a firearms discharge.

He was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries and has since been discharged.

Police have been conducting house-to-house enquiries and examining CCTV as they try to determine what happened.

There will be extra patrols in the area over the next few days.

Detective Inspector David Robertson, of South Yorkshire Police, said:

“We will not tolerate gun crime in South Yorkshire, this mindless violence has no place in our communities.

“We are working hard to bring those responsible for this incident to justice. In the coming days our officers will be in the area. If you have any concerns, please stop them and speak to them as they are there to help.

“Anyone with information that could help our investigation is urged to come forward. Did you see or hear anything suspicious, or do you have CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage that could help our enquiries?”
