Man jailed over rioting in Rotherham dies in prison
61 year old Peter Lynch was being held on a two year eight month sentence for his role in disorder outside a hotel.
A grandfather who was jailed after taking park in rioting in Rotherham earlier this year has died behind bars.
61 year old Peter Lynch admitted to being part of the unrest outside the Holiday Inn Express on August 4.
Sheffield Crown Court heard he shouted "racist and provocative" remarks aimed at asylum seekers housed inside the hotel.
He was serving a two year eight month sentence at HMP Moorland near Doncaster.
A Prison Service spokesperson said: “HMP Moorland prisoner, Peter Lynch died on 19/10/2024. As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will investigate.”
More than 50 police officers, three police dogs and a police horse were injured when rioters broke into the hotel.
