Reclaim the Night walk to honour Rotherham woman Kimberley Fuller, 20 years after her murder
People will gather in Rotherham later this month to remember 19 year old Kimberley Fuller - who was stabbed on a night out
The leader of Rotherham Council has paid tribute to a woman who was murdered in the town 20 years ago, ahead of a walk to honour her memory.
Kimberley Fuller, aged 19, was stabbed to death on November 5, 2005, during a night out in Rotherham town centre after confronting a man who had touched her. Her killer was later convicted of separate child abuse offences.
Speaking during Wednesday’s (Nov 5) full council meeting, Rotherham Council leader Cllr Chris Read paid tribute to Kimberley’s family and the ongoing fight for a safer society.
“This year, the walk is dedicated to the memory of Kimberley Fuller.
“Kimberly was stabbed to death on the fifth of November, 2005, on a night out in Rotherham town centre after she confronted a man who touched her. It’s worth noting colleagues, her killer was later convicted for separate child abuse offences.
“I don’t know how people’s families keep going. I don’t know how they get up and work their way through that. And I can’t imagine the bravery that takes.
Kimberley’s family and friends have asked for her to be remembered as part of this year’s Reclaim the Night to mark 20 years since her murder, and they’ll be attending the event.
“So from all of us today, we pay tribute to their courage and determination as they continue to make the case against misogyny and sexual violence and for a more humane society. And we pay respects to Kimberley.”
The event, organised by Flux Rotherham, Rotherham Council, and Kimberley’s mother Pat, aims to highlight women’s safety and take a stand against misogyny and sexual violence. It will take place on Thursday, November 27, starting from Rotherham Town Hall at 6pm.
