Doncaster Central MP insists 'lessons must be learned' around stricter prison checks
Sally Jameson has been speaking to us around the accidental release of Hadush Kebatu last week
An Ethiopian national - who was wrongly freed from HMP Chelmsford on Friday morning - could be deported today.
Hadush Kebatu was supposed to be sent to an immigration detention centre - but was accidentally released instead.
Now - the Justice Secretary - David Lammy - has announced an independent investigation to establish exactly what went wrong.
Sally Jameson is the Labour MP for Doncaster Central & a former prison officer:
"I'm angry; the Secretary of State is angry; I think everyone is absolutely shocked that this happened - but we are putting the right systems in place to make sure this doesn't happen again and that the right lessons are learned.
"Accidental release of prisoners isn't something that happens often, but one release in error is one too many.
"So, whilst ever we're in this situation - we've got to get on top of it and prevent it from happening again in the short, medium, and long term.
"Extra systems have been put in place to make sure this doesn't happen again.
"These enhanced checks are absolutely necessary."
Kebatu was re-arrested over the weekend - & had been serving a sentence for sex offences.
