Ongoing incident in Grimethorpe as 'suspicious items' found

There is an ongoing incident in Grimethorpe as 'suspicious items' have been found.

Emergency services were called to Brierley Road at around 7.10am this morning.

The army are there along with other emergency services dealing with the incident.

A cordon is in place and we are being asked to avoid the area.

A Police spokesperson said:

"Around 7.10am today (Wednesday 8 May) police executing a warrant on Brierley Road, Grimethorpe found a number of suspicious items.

"The army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has been called and a 100m cordon is in place as a precaution while emergency services work together at the scene.

"There are some road closures and public transport may also be disrupted. We would advise members of the public to avoid the area.

"We would like to thank the public for their patience and their cooperation. We will update you again as soon as we have more information."
